Week 2 - Family and Friends
Finding your people

In a time when we often find ourselves divided instead of united,

Be reminded, there is only one force that overcomes fear and hate,

LOVE makes US great!

Three years ago I RSVP’d faster to an invitation than I ever had in my life. My friend was celebrating her birthday in Hawaii and invited several friends and family members to be part of the festivities.

There was just one detail that had me hesitate, for just a second. I’d be sharing a room, and likely a bed, with someone I’d never met before. In my younger days this would likely have been enough for me to pass.

Thankfully, I’ve learned that a friend of a good friend has a 99.9999% chance of being a new friend. This has indeed been the case three times now. I’ve shared hotels and rental homes with folks who used to be strangers and each has been an incredible experience to get to know a new friend.

Being open to new experiences and trusting the judgment of friends has led to what I hope will be long-lasting new friendships. Like any new friendship it takes dedication to staying in touch. Next thing you know you’re catching up over dinner in Makawao, Maui.

Openness and trust are a recipe for growing new friendships. And if you bond while sharing space, both are accelerated!

Please share an unusual way that you became friends with someone you now cherish.

Love requires participation. Love requires sharing. Love requires action. Love requires commitment.

With gratitude,

Joyce Aiko

(yes, love really is my middle name)
