Week 3 - Workplace
Let's get curious

In a time when we often find ourselves divided instead of united,

Be reminded, there is only one force that overcomes fear and hate,

LOVE makes US great!

Love at work? Aren’t there laws against that! Indeed, while many folks I know met their spouses at work, that’s not what I’m talking about today.

Love takes many forms. The root of my middle name – Ai – translates not to romantic love but deep, all-encompassing love. A recognition that at our core, we are all unique divine beings who are deserving of love simply for who we are. I can love another human even if I don’t agree with their words or actions.

What does it mean to love at work? We show people how much we love and value them through our actions – compassion, connection, curiosity.

This week let’s explore curiosity – learning more about each other. Here are three questions to get to know a work colleague a little bit better.

  • Why did you get into the work you are doing now?
  • What makes you the most excited about your work?
  • What do you want to be doing in a few years?

Be prepared to share your answers with your colleague as well. Odds are that you will learn something new, find something in common, or both.

Being curious about another person is one way that we demonstrate that we care about them. Listening to learn and not to judge is how we show we love and value them for who they are.

Who will you talk to in the next week to learn more about them? Please don’t share names in the comments. Please do share what you asked and what you learned from the experience.

Love requires participation. Love requires sharing. Love requires action. Love requires commitment. What you share is amplified and inspires others.

With gratitude,

Joyce Aiko

(yes, love really is my middle name)
